Casting Procurement Strategy

A successful casting procurement strategy is not based on the lowest quoted price alone. Cast components are technically demanding products, and their total procurement cost is influenced by many factors, including the manufacturing process, material, quality requirements, production volumes, logistics, energy and raw-material costs, as well as the capabilities and location of the foundry.

An effective procurement strategy therefore begins with a detailed analysis of the company’s casting requirements and existing supplier structure. We evaluate which castings should be sourced from existing suppliers, where alternative sources should be developed, and which procurement markets offer the best combination of technical capability, cost competitiveness and supply security.

Supplier selection should not be based solely on price. Technical expertise, process capability, quality performance, available production capacity, delivery reliability and financial stability are equally important. Geographic factors and risks related to energy and raw-material supply should also be taken into account when establishing a sustainable supplier base.

We support industrial companies in developing and implementing a long-term casting procurement strategy. This includes analysing the existing supplier portfolio, identifying suitable foundries, evaluating quotations and cost structures, developing alternative sources and supporting commercial negotiations.

The objective is a technically reliable and economically sustainable supplier structure that ensures competitive procurement costs, stable quality and secure supply over the long term.
